Occidental Queer Symposium Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection includes digital images of nine posters produced primarily between 2009 and 2011 by OQS. The posters promote a variety of events including academic lectures, film screenings, workshops and symposiums centered on queer studies, LGBTQ activism. Some notable topics include Afrofuturism, punk culture, Filipino American experiences, disability studies, and queer temporality. Several prominent scholars and activists are noted such as José Esteban Muñoz, Kara Keeling, Jasbir Puar, and Elizabeth Freeman. The collection is limited to digital poster images and does not include other formats or extensive documentation of the events themselves.

Biographical / Historical
Occidental Queer Symposium (OQS) was an on-campus organization dedicated to bringing notable queer speakers to campus, with the ultimate goal of promoting queer voices and academic thought. OQS held various events, primarily academic lectures, but also including film screenings and plays from 2009 to 2012. The program was funded by the Remsen Bird fund and offered diverse perspectives of LGBTQ studies to Occidental College students and faculty. OQS was cosponsored by various different organizations and departments at the college, including the CTSJ department, ASOC, QSA and BSA.
