Scope and Contents
Documents the planning, development, and transformation of Occidental College’s Eagle Rock campus from its opening in 1914 to the present. It includes materials related to academic and administrative buildings, athletic facilities, residence halls, and campus infrastructure. Items such as photographs, architectural drawings, blueprints, and commemorative histories illustrate the evolution of the built environment and its relationship to the college’s educational mission.

Biographical / Historical
The College's newest science building, designed for the geology, physics, and environmental science programs, was dedicated in 2003. The classroom and laboratory facility recognizes the generosity of Fred John Hameetman of the Class of 1961 and his wife, Joyce Ann Loedige Hameetman.
After receiving the Bachelor of Arts degree from Occidental, Fred Hameetman, a native of Los Angeles, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology, and a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Southern California. An early career was with Douglas Aircraft as an aerophysicist and engineering supervisor. Subsequently he worked with the investment-banking firm of Hayden, Stone and as a vice president of Carlsberg Equities and Funds International before buying the first of the American Group of companies in 1971, of which he is now chairman.
Joyce Hameetman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach, and taught science and mathematics in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Mr. and Mrs. Hameetman have been active in professional, community, and educational associations.
